Redsn0w iOS 7 Jailbreak may be Delayed Over a Jailbreak 7.0.1 Utility
Following last week’s release of both iOS 7 and 7.0.1 for the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C devices, numerous questions have been raised by our readers regarding the status of the next jailbreak. While we’ve already written several articles on the latest news concerning the iOS 7 and 7.0.1 jailbreak, in this article, we’re going to cover a slightly different jailbreak angle: redsn0w for iOS 7. In the past, the iPhone Dev Team has always updated their redsn0w jailbreak utility to include support for older devices on the latest version of iOS – this year is slightly different.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that Apple stopped supporting both the iPhone 3GS and the iPod touch 4th generation in iOS 7, two of the devices that the limera1n exploit still functioned on, the developers are in less of a hurry to upgrade redsn0w. Currently, the only bootrom hardware exploit in existance (at least to the public’s knowledge) was discovered in 2010 by once-renouned hacker Geohot.
Geohot’s limera1n exploit has been outdated indirectly by Apple’s decision to phase out older devices; therefore, the only iOS-based device redsn0w (with the limera1n exploit) will be capable of jailbreaking is the iPhone 4.
Moreover, Saurik (the creator of Cydia) has been fairly silent on Cydia’s compatibility with iOS 7. Needless to say, the third-party package distribution platform must be updated prior to the release or update of any jailbreak utility.
With the leader of the iPhone Dev Team, MuscleNerd, now an active member of the evad3rs, it’s hard to say whether the public will see an iPhone 4-only iOS 7 update to the popular redsn0w jailbreak utility any time soon.
