Apple Releases 7.0.3, Next Utility to likely Jailbreak 7.0.3Today, following the announcement of both the all-new iPad Air and the Retina second-generation iPad mini, Apple released iOS 7.0.3.  The new update not only provides a number of iOS 7 bug fixes, but it also adds iCloud Keychain support – a feature that’s included in the completely free OS X Mavericks. Furthermore, although MuscleNerd recently shared words of caution with his followers, Apple’s latest release likely won’t have an impact on the evad3rs’ iOS 7 jailbreak, chances are good it will be capable of jailbreaking 7.0.3.

While additional details will come on the topic at a later time, and although famed iOS hacker and evad3rs member MuscleNerd warned users to avoid 7.0.3 at the moment, it seems as though the firmware doesn’t correct any of the valuable jailbreak exploits the team has been stockpiling over the past few months.

However, just to be safe, future jailbreakers should stay on 7.0.2 or earlier until the evad3rs give fans the go ahead.

Potential iOS7 jailbreakers should stay away from today’s 7.0.3 for now. Too early to tell if it closes anything important for JB.

Jailbreak 6.1.3 Semi UnTethered iOS on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch 4G

Jailbreak 6.1.3 iOS Semi UnTethered on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod touch 4G with Redsn0w – Following Apple’s release of iOS 6.1.3 today, a popular jailbreak tutorial YouTuber named iCrackUriDevice published an updated semi UnTethered jailbreak guide for the new firmware using a simple RedSn0w workaround. Unfortunately, because the Untethered exploits employed by Evasion are patched in iOS 6.1.3, this jailbreak remains exclusive to A4-powered devices and is Tethered by default, which we’ll explain later. If you own a newer iDevice on a previous version of iOS 6, including 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1, 6.1.1 and 6.1.2, we strongly advise following our evasi0n jailbreak tutorial, as it includes untethered support for all devices.

As mentioned above, the Redsn0w Jailbreak is compatible with, and can jailbreak, the following iPhone and iPod touch models running iOS 6.1.3.

iPhone 4 (both GSM and CMDA models)iPhone 3GSiPod touch 4th generation

While the following newer iDevices are incompatible with this 6.1.3 jailbreak, they are still able to be jailbroken on all previous versions of iOS 6, even 6.1.2, using evasion.

iPhone 5iPhone 4SiPad miniiPod touch 5th generationiPad 4 powered by Apple’s A6X chip and Retina displayiPad 3iPad 2

Furthermore, even though it’s possible to use redsn0w on 6.1.3, iPhone and iPod touch owners will only be able to jailbreak using what’s referred to as a “Tethered Jailbreak”. Consequently, devices jailbroken using this method will require Redsnow to boot into their fully jailbroken state every time they power off. However, it is possible to install what’s known as a semi Tethered or a Semi UnTethered jailbreak on iOS 6.1.3 after completing this tutorial. This will allow the iPhone or iPod touch to reboot without the assistance of a computer with limited functionality. If you’ve previously jailbroken using a tethered version of redsn0w, jailbreaking 6.1.3 should be easy for you.

Important Jailbreak Prerequisite

Before continuing with this semi Untethered jailbreak tutorial, ensure that you have the following:

An older iDevice (remember, only the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the iPod touch 4G are supported) running the latest iOS 6.1.3 firmware from Apple.The RedSnow 0.9.15b3 jailbreak utility and your device’s corresponding 6.0 firmware file.

Additionally, while mentioned above, it’s worth reiterating that this is a Tethered jailbreak, which requires additional effort on your part and doesn’t support newer iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models. If at all possible, we recommend staying on a lower iOS 6 firmware and jailbreaking with evasion – iOS 6.1.2 is ideal because it’s the latest firmware supported by evasi0n.

Step 1: Download Redsn0w from our download section, which is linked below, to ensure that you have an authentic version of the tool.

Step 2: Once Redsnow has been successfully downloaded, if you’re on Windows, right click the utility, set compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and grant the program administrative privileges. Mac users needn’t worry about compatibility, as practically all versions of OS X  can use the utility immediately after downloading it.

Step 3: Run Redsn0w and click Extras, followed by Select IPSW. In the pop-up window, simply point Redsnow at the iOS 6.0 IPSW, not 6.1.3. After the firmware has been successfully identified, click the Back button to return to the main Redsn0w menu.

Step 4: Click the Jailbreak button, ensure that the option to, Install Cydia was checked by default and continue to the next screen. At this point, Redsn0w suggests turning your device off to enter DFU mode, although it’s possible to bypass this stage of the jailbreak entirely by entering DFU mode ahead of time.

Step 5: To enter Device Firmware Update mode, simply connect your iPhone or iPod touch via a standard 30-pin USB cable, press and hold both the home and power buttons for a total of ten seconds. Once ten seconds has passed, release the power button and continue to hold the home button for an additional ten to fifteen seconds.

Step 6: If you’ve entered DFU mode correctly, Redsnow will automatically proceed. Simply wait for the process to complete and for your jailbroken device to reboot, after it has, you’ll need to boot Tethered.

As previously mentioned, you’ll be required to boot tethered for Cydia to appear and every time you need to reboot your iPhone or iPod. To boot Tethered, simply open RedSn0w, click Extras, followed by Select IPSW, point the RedSn0w window at the iOS 6.0 IPSW and select the option to Just Boot.

When you arrive at the stage that requires your device to enter DFU mode, follow the procedure outlined in the fifth step of this tutorial.

Earlier this week, on the 2nd, planetbeing of the evad3rs reignited the hopes of all who are eagerly awaiting the upcoming Untethered iOS 7.0.2 jailbreak utility for all devices. Following his tweet, jailbreak enthusiasts everywhere briefly rejoiced, only to find themselves once again pondering the unknown release date of said jailbreak for 7.0.2, as the hacker was vague to say the least. As the staff of Jailbreak iOS Evasion stated in our post covering the topic, the team didn’t plan on clarifying their release schedule for a tool to jailbreak 7.0.2, as the situation is dynamic.

Following the announcement, pod2g (another member of the evad3rs) echoed the circumstances listed above. Again, due to the unpredictable nature of development and hacking, numerous issues could push the evad3rs’ upcoming release back.

Again, and like usual, we can’t give a release date for the iOS 7 jailbreak. We can run into different troubles… No idea.

During the conference, legendary hacker p0sixninja shared details regarding his work, and the work of others, from the beginning of his time on the jailbreak scene to more recent times.

Included in the talk were mentions of Pwnage, Pwnage2, 24kPWN, the exploitation of vulnerabilities, jailbreak payloads, SHAtter, BBS and heap segments, 0×40 byte limits, SHSH memset, a multitude of head-dizzying code and so much more across 95 slides.

Although p0sixninja’s presentation is more than overwhelming for those who aren’t overly familiar with coding, the work detailed is actually a fraction of what’s required to create a jailbreak. Not to mention the fact that his SHAttered Dreams talk covered the days when A4 devices (the iPhone 4, the 4th generation iPod touch and the original iPad) were the latest on the market – development is inconceivably more complex now with all of the devices that must be accounted for in a jailbreak (A4, A5, A5X, A6, A6X and A7-powered iPhone, iPod touch and iPad models).

Without getting too technical, SHAtter was a potential bootrom exploit that was eventually shelved in favor of Geohot’s limera1n exploit. Upon the Chronic Dev team’s greenpois0n release date announcement, Geohot rushed to be the first to release what he thought was a jailbreak powered by the same exploit as the Chronic Dev team’s SHAtter-powered greenpois0n tool. In the end, it turned out the two were vastly different – limera1n was far superior, as it functioned on all current devices, not just the A4-based ones that SHAtter supported.

The moral of the story? When talking about jailbreak development, nothing is static – surprises can occur where they are least expected. As previously mentioned, the evad3rs will deliver, all members of the group have proved themselves time and time again – it’s a complicated process and the team wants to ensure that everything functions properly with all iOS 7 devices.

Today, following numerous jailbreak updates and a couple iOS 7 firmware updates from Apple (including 7.0.2), we have excellent news to share with our readers. This is what we’ve been waiting for – genius hacker planetbeing of the evad3rs sent the most exciting tweet in months to followers. It seems as though the public will have a jailbreak for 7.0.2 and iOS 7 in general sooner than initial predictions and estimates. Like with evasi0n for iOS 6 through 6.1.2, the evad3rs will once again save the day by releasing a utility to jailbreak 7.0.2.

Once the whirlwind of news and updates regarding Apple’s new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C smartphones, iOS 7, 7.0.1 and 7.0.2  subsided, planetbeing felt it fit to update his avid followers on development progress earlier today.

As illustrated by the tweet embedded above, the evad3rs may have all they need to complete the jailbreak – although, planetbeing isn’t certain. Additional development and testing is undoubtedly required before a public release is even in the realm of possibility.

Moreover, various reports have propagated recently suggesting that Apple will issue a new update to correct various iMessage difficulties users are experiencing on iOS 7. If the company decides to go this route and release iOS 7.0.3 for all supported devices, it’s a strong possibility that the firmware will be jailbreakable via the evad3rs’ upcoming tool. If the group decides to wrap up development and wait for iOS 7.0.3, it’s virtually inconceivably that Apple would know which vulnerabilities to patch prior to the release of said tool.

iOS 7 Redsn0w Jailbreak May Be Delayed Over A Jailbreak 7.0.2 Utility

Following last week’s release of both iOS 7 and 7.0.1 for the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C devices, numerous questions have been raised by our readers regarding the status of the next jailbreak. While we’ve already written several articles on the latest news concerning the iOS 7 and 7.0.1 jailbreak, in this article, we’re going to cover a slightly different jailbreak angle: redsn0w for iOS 7. In the past, the iPhone Dev Team has always updated their redsn0w jailbreak utility to include support for older devices on the latest version of iOS – this year is slightly different.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that Apple stopped supporting both the iPhone 3GS and the iPod touch 4th generation in iOS 7, two of the devices that the limera1n exploit still functioned on, the developers are in less of a hurry to upgrade redsn0w. Currently, the only bootrom hardware exploit in existance (at least to the public’s knowledge) was discovered in 2010 by once-renouned hacker Geohot.

Geohot’s limera1n exploit has been outdated indirectly by Apple’s decision to phase out older devices; therefore, the only iOS-based device redsn0w (with the limera1n exploit) will be capable of jailbreaking is the iPhone 4.

Moreover, Saurik (the creator of Cydia) has been fairly silent on Cydia’s compatibility with iOS 7. Needless to say, the third-party package distribution platform must be updated prior to the release or update of any jailbreak utility.

With the leader of the iPhone Dev Team, MuscleNerd, now an active member of the evad3rs, it’s hard to say whether the public will see an iPhone 4-only iOS 7 update to the popular redsn0w jailbreak utility any time soon.

Jailbreak 7.0.2 Development Continues, As Winocm Provides Untethered 6.1.3 ETA

Jailbreak 7.0.2 Development, UnTethered 6.1.3 Release TimeframeWith the somewhat recent news regarding the evad3rs having everything the dev team needs to complete the jailbreak 7.0.2 utility (which will likely include support for soon to be released iOS 7.0.3), the anticipation amongst jailbreak enthusiasts across the globe couldn’t be higher. The evad3rs are, without a doubt, working tirelessly on developing the next Untethered 7.0.2 jailbreak in somewhat of a “stealth mode,” as none of the members have publicized their recent progress. What of the iOS 6.1.3 and the potential jailbreak from a developer by the name of winocm that we detailed last month? It’s also in development, and with a general release timeframe!

A few factors come into play when calculating the long development period of winocm’s alleged jailbreak 6.1.3 utility. Most notably the fact that the responsibility of coding and testing (for the most part) lies with him alone.

Moreover, a jailbreak “dream team”, like the evad3rs, are more apt to tackle the challenges related to creating a jailbreak, as the members have more experience in the field. Although there isn’t an official release timeframe for the iOS 7 jailbreak, the tool will likely be issued to the public some time following Apple’s release of the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, and preceding winocm’s 6.1.3 tool.

Furthermore, the fact that the evad3rs have gone “silent” as far as sharing development details with the public is actually a good sign. The team is close and they aren’t ready to announce a target release date yet, as the new iPads may pose unforeseen difficulties and, in turn, slightly delaying said target release date.

Apple Releases iOS 7.0.2, Next Utility To Also Jailbreak 7.0.2Today, following last week’s release of iOS 7 and both the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, Apple released iOS 7.0.2. The new update acts as both a unifying firmware for the fragmentation Apple caused with the 5s and 5c-exclusive 7.0.1 update and a solution for a few lockscreen bugs that affect iOS 7. Furthermore, Apple’s latest release won’t have an impact on the evad3rs’ next utility, it will be capable of jailbreaking 7.0.2.
